WPC: Beloved

This may be a little premature as my blog is not even close to being completed, but I was anxious to participate in some photography challenges online. I decided to jump right in and join in on The Daily Post Weekly Photo Challenge for January 31, 2018. The theme was “beloved”, and while I felt the urge to post photos of my kitties, I knew there was one other item in the house that is quite precious to me.

image1This coin was given to me by my father before he passed away in 2002 from cancer. It is a Saint Patrick coin – Patron Saint of the Irish. On the back, it reads:

“May your troubles be less, your blessings be more,

and nothing but happiness come through your door.”

This coin is very dear to me, for reasons I am sure you can understand. It has traveled with me through many rough periods of my life. The coin is showing its’ age — the image of Saint Patrick on the front is so worn that you can only make out the silhouette now. But the back – the blessing – still remains crystal clear. Hopefully someday I can pass it along to someone else who will see the value in it, and will keep it as one of their most beloved possessions as I have. It is amazing how something as simple as a coin can help you through some of your toughest days… just by holding it in your hand.

Photo taken on an iPhone 6 camera… nothing fancy. My camera was not readily available to me this morning. Shot in black and white – my favorite. I feel that the B&W really helps the detail of the coin to pop.

I look forward to any comments or likes! Thanks for checking out my very first photo challenge post! Happy to be a part of this.
